The Side Tent Story
Since the introduction of the Wesftalia Campmobile, Volkswagen has offered various side tents as an accessory. Many folks who camp for extended periods of time benefit from the additional space, privacy and weather protection these tents provide. Over the years we too have offered both factory and aftermarket Westy specific tents to our customers. While they have always been very high quality German made units, they do have some down sides. First, they are very bulky to store and transport. We have had more tents returned for this reason than any other. They just take up too much valuable interior space. Second, they cannot be set up quickly, meaning they are really only suitable for extended camp-outs in the same spot. To compound the isssue, they all have a complicated metal frame structure that takes a lot of patience to set up, and spare parts are virtually non-existent. So, the bottom line is that we have discontinued our lineup of side tents. If you absolutely must have one, there are many new and used models available from other vendors and private parties on the internet.
