This is because there is a chance you will have a problem with the left side drive axle due to the fact it is shorter than the right one (and even shorter than both left and right on manual transaxle Vanagons). This very short AT-only left axle subjects the CV joints to a more severe angle. We have sold many sets of these springs for use on Vanagon with AT without complaint. But if your particular Vanagon happens to sit a bit higher, or the transaxle sits a little further to the left than average, or your shock absorber allows a little more down travel than the original ones—or a combination of all three—you might have an issue. The 930 CVs are capable of a greater angles and will solve the problem.

Satisfaction Guarantee

60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee:

We are confident that you will love these springs. Lifting your vehicle means the drive axles will now be riding at a different angle. Depending on how worn-out your axles are, this may cause a new vibration under load. The two remedies are to either replace the axles with a fresh set or rotate the CV joints so they are loaded in the opposite direction where there is little to no wear pattern to cause vibration.

If your vehicle has identical axle lengths on left and right sides (not all models do), you can simply swap the axles left to right and the CVs will be loaded in the opposite direction. It is the perfect spring and perch bundle for any Syncro with GoWesty Fox shocks, but especially ideal for our long-travel front shocks. Working with our American spring manufacturer, we made a spring with a ½” smaller overall outside diameter but maintained the same dual spring rates as our other springs that we know to give exceptional ride quality and traction on and off road.

Why else do I need these?

First, our adjustable, remote-reservoir Fox Shocks for Syncro include an extra inch of down travel, a little change which makes a huge difference in performance on a lifted van. But this extra down travel can bring the upper control arm and ball joint uncomfortably close to the spring. Setting up standard-size springs to dodge the Upper Control Arm (UCA) was always a finicky process. Even when done properly there were circumstances where the UCA just contacts the spring, which can make an annoying clunking sound. This high-clearance spring bundle eliminates that interference problem all together. From a full Westy camper to a light-weight tin-top, to anywhere along the Baja peninsula, you can choose the compression damping that suits your vehicle and the terrain you're traveling upon. The combination of damping options allows you to dial in your ride like never before. The level of stiffness you feel between one shock and the next is almost entirely a function of compression damping. Our Fox shocks are fully adjustable in that regard! Whatever you like: soft like a marshmallow or on rails like a slot car—you don't have to settle for one or the other! You can experience both and everything in between! No matter how you set the compression damping, what they'll do better than any other shock is controlling the ride via much greater rebound damping—which is the resistance that a shock absorber provides after a bump is hit and the suspension compresses. This nifty limiting strap kit allows you to install either of our (formerly) 4WD-only rear shocks on manual 2WD without fear of overextending the axles.

The advantage of our rear 2.0 and 2.5 Fox shocks previously suitable only for Syncro is that they are adjustable so you can dial them in as desired. Our 2.5 shock has more advanced adjustability than the 2.0 version, and it can absorb an order of magnitude more energy making it simply the ultimate, no-holds-barred shock for the Vanagon. Check out the related items below for more info on our adjustable Fox 2.0 and 2.5 rear shocks to understand why they are superior to our regular non-adjustable rear Fox shocks.

Wait a minute, aren't 2WD axles the same length as Syncro? Yes they are, but the Syncro engine and transaxle sit a full 2" lower than a 2WD which allows for a longer-travel rear shock. If you install a longer shock on a 2WD, your CV joints will bind at full droop. No bueno! So, if you want the adjustability of the Syncro rear shocks we offer, you need these limit straps to protect your CV joints.

Fits: Manual 1980-91 2WD when fitted with GoWesty Adjustable Fox 2.0 or 2.5 Rear Shocks.
*Does not fit Vanagon with AT transmission
Contents:
• (2) 23" Custom GoWesty Limit Straps
• (1) Complete hardware kit with installation instructions

Instructions

Suspension Limit Strap Set - PDF Installation Instructions

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0555/8170/4357/files/LIMIT-STRIP_2_inch_main_dc99175a-ddbc-4846-a4e8-a53cab739563.jpg?v=1734740895
