Is this A/C Compressor compatible with my Vanagon?

This brand-new A/C Compressor is specifically designed for 'late' Vanagons, which generally refers to model years 1986-1991. It fits all Vanagon models from these years equipped with factory-installed or GoWesty-style upgraded air conditioning systems. We recommend double-checking your Vanagon’s year and A/C system style to ensure proper fitment before ordering.

Are any modifications or special fittings required for installation?

This A/C Compressor is designed for direct replacement in late-model Vanagons (1986-1991) and usually requires no special modifications if you are replacing the factory compressor. However, Vanagon air conditioning systems can vary, and you may need to reuse some existing brackets or fittings. We always recommend inspecting your current compressor’s mounting and connections and comparing them to this unit prior to installation. If you aren’t sure, our support team can help verify compatibility.

How do I confirm this is the right compressor for my Vanagon?

To ensure this compressor is appropriate for your vehicle, check the model year (should be 1986-1991) and verify that your Vanagon has the original or directly compatible A/C system. Review photos and descriptions carefully, and compare your current compressor and its mounting points. If you have any doubts, contact GoWesty with your VIN and existing A/C system details for fitment guidance.

Is this compressor new or remanufactured, and is there a core charge?

This Vanagon A/C Compressor is 100% brand-new and not a remanufactured or refurbished unit. There is no core charge required, making your purchase simple — you keep your old compressor if you wish, and do not need to send anything back after replacement. This makes installation and checkout easier and provides the peace of mind of owning an entirely new part.

Are there any tips to ensure a smooth installation of this compressor?

Before installation, make sure your Vanagon’s A/C system is properly diagnosed and free of leaks. Compare the new compressor’s fitting points and electrical connections to your existing unit. It’s important to have the system evacuated and recharged by a qualified A/C technician. If you’re unsure about DIY installation, we suggest professional installation to guarantee system performance and reliability.
