Is the Alternator Install Master Bundle compatible with my 1987 Watercooled Vanagon?

Yes! This bundle is designed to fit all 1983-1991 Watercooled Vanagons, excluding diesel models. If your 1987 Vanagon is gasoline-powered, it’s a perfect match for the ALT-MASTER-BUNDLE.

What are the benefits of getting the complete Master Bundle versus buying just the alternator?

The Master Bundle includes everything you need for a seamless upgrade: a new 90A alternator, upgraded wiring harness, bracket kit, belt tension components, and V-belt. Buying all at once saves you time searching for compatible parts and ensures a secure, proper installation with improved mounting and belt tensioning.

Any tips to make installation straightforward when using this bundle?

Definitely! Start by disconnecting the battery, then remove your old alternator and related components. The upgraded bracket kit matches existing mounting points for a snug fit, and the bundle’s wiring harness is designed for plug-and-play—no splicing needed. Make sure to follow the belt tension bundle instructions carefully to avoid over-tightening, which helps prevent premature wear.

How does the 90A alternator in this bundle improve my Vanagon’s performance?

The 90A alternator offers more consistent and reliable power output, which is especially helpful if you’ve upgraded other electrical components or run extra accessories. It’ll keep your battery charged efficiently and reduce the risk of electrical issues on the road.

Can I install this bundle myself, or should I get a professional?

Many Vanagon owners find this bundle straightforward to install thanks to the comprehensive parts and clear fitment. If you're comfortable with basic mechanical work and have standard tools, you can likely handle it yourself. However, if you're unsure about electrical connections or mounting, consulting a professional mechanic is a safe choice to ensure everything is installed correctly.
