Will this 90A Alternator fit my watercooled 1983-91 Vanagon, and is it better than the original Bosch unit?

Yes, this 90A Alternator is specifically designed for all watercooled Volkswagen Vanagons from model years 1983 to 1991. It's a direct-fit upgrade, replacing your stock Bosch unit with no modifications needed. Compared to the original, this alternator features improved build quality and delivers more amperage (90A vs. the original 65A or 90A), giving you extra charging power for modern accessories and reliability on the road.

Is there really no core charge or hidden fees with this alternator? What else makes it a good value?

That’s right—there’s absolutely no core charge when you buy this alternator from GoWesty. You won’t have to ship your old unit back or deal with extra fees, making your purchase fast and hassle-free. Plus, this alternator is brand-new (not a rebuilt or remanufactured unit), offering increased durability, updated components, and GoWesty’s renowned product support, so you can buy with total confidence.

What should I know about installing this alternator, and are there any recommended upgrades for my charging system?

Installation is straightforward for DIYers familiar with Vanagon engine bays—just disconnect your battery, remove the old alternator, and bolt the new one in using standard hand tools. It’s a good idea to inspect your alternator belt and wiring for wear and replace them if needed. For even better performance, many Vanagon owners upgrade their alternator wiring and ground strap, or add a GoWesty high-quality battery or an auxiliary battery system, to maximize charging efficiency, especially if running extra accessories like fridges or additional lighting.
