How can I be sure this drain cap will fit my Vanagon Westfalia?

To ensure proper fitment, this drain cap is specifically designed for 1988-91 Vanagon Westfalia models. The key detail is the thread count: your fresh water tank’s drain pipe must have 3 threads per 1/2 inch (sometimes called "coarse thread"). If your drain pipe has 5 threads per 1/2 inch (fine thread), this cap will not fit. Double-check your original cap or the threads on your tank before buying for a perfect match.

Is this the original drain cap or an aftermarket replacement?

This is a high-quality aftermarket replacement for the original Vanagon Westfalia fresh water tank drain cap. It is made by Quality Aftermarket to the correct specifications (part number 255-070-802B), so it fits and functions just like the original 35mm cap. It’s a great choice for restoring or maintaining your camper’s plumbing system, especially since this hard-to-find part is rarely in stock.

How do I install the fresh water tank drain cap on my camper?

Installation is quick and straightforward—simply screw the drain cap onto the tank’s drain pipe by hand. Ensure the threads on both the cap and the tank are clean and free from debris for a watertight seal. Turn the cap clockwise until snug; it shouldn’t require tools. If you feel significant resistance or the threads don’t align, double-check that your tank matches the cap’s 3 threads per 1/2 inch specification. That’s all you need to keep your fresh water system secure and leak-free!
