Will this ignition lock cylinder work with my original key?

This is an aftermarket ignition lock cylinder and comes with two new keys. Unfortunately, it's not designed to match the original factory key profile, so you won't be able to rekey it to work with your existing original keys. You'll need to use the new keys provided with this cylinder.

What year and model vehicles does this ignition lock cylinder fit?

This ignition lock cylinder is designed to fit various models from 1971 through 1991. This includes Type 2 Buses and Vanagons, covering different trims like Campmobile, Passenger, and Westfalia Camper models. It works with both manual and automatic transmissions, and 2WD and 4WD drive types.

Does this lock cylinder come with keys, or do I need to get them separately?

Yes, this ignition lock cylinder comes complete with two brand-new keys. You'll have a primary key and a spare right out of the box.

I'm trying to replace my worn-out ignition cylinder. Is this a direct replacement part?

Yes, this is an aftermarket ignition lock cylinder intended as a direct replacement for the specified year range and models. It's designed to install in place of your original unit, but remember that you will need to use the two new keys included with this part, as it cannot be rekeyed to your original keys.

Can I buy this cylinder and have a locksmith rekey it so my original key works?

Unfortunately, no. This aftermarket cylinder is manufactured with a key profile that is not compatible with the original factory OEM key cut. Therefore, it cannot be rekeyed to operate with your original existing keys, even by a locksmith.
