Will this ignition lock housing (part # 155-905-851) fit my 1986 Vanagon?

Yes, this ignition lock housing is designed to fit all 1980-1991 Vanagon models, including your 1986. It's a quality aftermarket replacement that includes the steering column upper bearing.

I'm replacing the ignition lock housing on my Vanagon myself. Any installation tips for the allen bolt?

Great question! When installing this ignition lock housing, be careful not to overtighten the allen bolt. We recommend not exceeding 7 ft-lbs of torque. It's easy to strip this fastener if you apply too much force, and you don't want that hassle.

Does this part replace the whole ignition cylinder and the housing, or just the outer housing?

This is the ignition lock housing. It replaces the outer metal casing of your ignition assembly. The part you'll be working with is the housing itself, and it comes with the necessary steering column upper bearing for a complete replacement of that component.

Is this the standard part number 155-905-851 for Vanagon ignition systems?

Yes, this aftermarket ignition lock housing is identified by part number 155-905-851. It's a direct fit for all Vanagon models from 1980 through 1991, providing a reliable replacement for your existing unit.
