Will this locking gas cap fit my 1989 Syncro Westfalia, and is it compatible with all 4WD Vanagons?

Yes, this German-made locking gas cap is specifically designed for all 1986-1991 4WD Syncro Vanagons, including the 7-Passenger, Weekender, Multivan, Campmobile, Westfalia, and Wolfsburg models with manual transmissions. It offers a secure, snug fit—so if your old cap is missing or doesn’t seal right, this one is made to fit perfectly. Please note, it is not compatible with 2WD Vanagons. If you have a 2WD, GoWesty has a dedicated gas cap for those models.

How secure is this locking gas cap, and what comes in the box?

This gas cap comes with a pre-installed lock cylinder and two new keys, providing reliable protection against fuel theft or vandalism. Several Syncro owners have found the lock to be sturdy and trouble-free, so you can leave your van parked in peace, whether you’re at a trailhead or a crowded event. In the box, you’ll receive the locking gas cap, ready to install, and both keys—no need for extra parts or complicated assembly.

Is installation difficult? Do I need any special tools or mechanical experience to install this gas cap on my Syncro?

Installation is quick and straightforward—most Syncro owners can do it themselves in just a few minutes, with no special tools or mechanical skills required. Simply remove your old cap and twist this new locking gas cap into place. The factory-spec design ensures a tight, reliable seal every time. With its perfect fit and user-friendly design, it’s an easy upgrade for enhancing both security and peace of mind.
