Will this 300W Radiator Fan & Motor fit my 1986 Vanagon non-A/C model?

Yes, this quality aftermarket radiator fan and motor is designed to fit all 1983.5 through 1991 non-air-conditioned, water-cooled Vanagon models, including your 1986.

I'm looking to upgrade my Vanagon's cooling system. Is this 300W fan the best option, or should I consider something more powerful?

While this 300W/200W fan is a direct replacement, GoWesty recommends upgrading to the more powerful 450W fan and the late-style fan shroud adapter bracket kit. This combination offers significantly improved cooling performance for your Vanagon, especially in demanding conditions.

What are the dimensions of this Vanagon radiator fan, and will it clear my existing shroud?

This radiator fan has a 305mm diameter. It's designed to fit Vanagon models without air conditioning from 1983.5-91. If you're not upgrading the shroud, it should work with your existing setup. However, for optimal performance and easier installation, consider the late-style fan shroud adapter bracket kit mentioned in the product description.

My Vanagon radiator fan motor is failing. How difficult is it to replace this unit myself?

Replacing the radiator fan motor is a common DIY task for Vanagon owners. This unit is a direct fit for your non-A/C model. If you're comfortable working on your vehicle, you can likely install it yourself. For those looking for enhanced cooling, this is also a great time to consider the upgrade to the 450W fan and adapter kit, which may involve additional steps but offers substantial cooling benefits.
