Will this Reverse Light Switch fit my 1985 Vanagon manual transmission?

Yes! This switch is designed specifically for most manual transaxle Vanagons from 1984 to 1988, including your 1985 model with a manual transmission.

How can I tell if I need the two blade terminal switch or the plug/connector style?

If your original switch has two blade terminals, this is the right fit. But if your vehicle uses a plug-style connector, you’ll need part number 020-945-415A instead.

Is installation of the Reverse Light Switch complicated?

Not at all. The two blade terminals make it easy to connect, and it’s a straightforward replacement for your existing switch. If you’re comfortable with basic vehicle wiring, you should be able to install it yourself or with simple guidance.

Does this switch work for both 2WD and 4WD Vanagons?

Absolutely! It’s compatible with both 2WD and 4WD manual transmission Vanagons from 1984 through 1988, so it fits most models in that range.

I’ve heard some parts are hard to find. Is this Reverse Light Switch readily available?

Yes, this is a quality aftermarket part that is currently available. However, a similar original part (085-941-521) is not available as of early 2022, so this is a reliable option to keep your reverse lights working.
