Will this expansion valve fit my 1987-1991 Vanagon A/C system, and is it the correct replacement for the original?

Yes, this A/C expansion valve is specifically designed for late model Vanagons, covering the 1987-1991 model years. It is manufactured to meet or exceed the specifications of the original part, ensuring proper fitment and function for your Vanagon AC system.

What are the signs that my Vanagon's expansion valve needs replacing?

Common symptoms indicating a faulty expansion valve include weak or no cooling from your Vanagon AC, the compressor cycling on and off rapidly, or a hissing sound from the dashboard. If you notice inconsistent temperatures or that your AC struggles to keep up on hot days, the valve could be the culprit.

Is this a difficult part to install on my Vanagon, and do I need special tools?

Replacing the expansion valve on a Vanagon AC system requires some mechanical aptitude and comfort working with automotive AC components. It involves discharging the system, removing the old valve, and installing the new one, followed by evacuating and recharging the system with refrigerant. We recommend consulting a repair manual or seeking professional help if you're not experienced with AC work.

After installing the new valve, what's the recommended procedure for charging my Vanagon's AC system?

Once the new expansion valve is installed, it's crucial to properly evacuate the AC system using a vacuum pump to remove air and moisture. Then, recharge the system with the correct type and amount of refrigerant specified for your Vanagon model year. Over or undercharging can lead to poor performance or damage.
