Will this Vent Wing Seal without Groove fit my Vanagon?

This left side Vent Wing Seal without Groove is designed for all Volkswagen Vanagon models from 1980–1991, regardless of whether your van is 2WD or 4WD, and works with both manual and automatic transmissions. Please double-check your vent wing’s seal style before ordering, as this seal is for the type without a groove.

How does the 'without groove' seal differ from the groove style?

The 'without groove' Vent Wing Seal is made specifically for vent windows that do not have a groove in the window frame for the seal to sit in. If your original seal fit into a channel or groove, you’ll need the groove-style version instead. Installing the incorrect seal can result in poor fit or leaks, so be sure you’re choosing the right type for your Vanagon’s window.

Is the installation of this seal difficult for a DIY mechanic?

Replacing your Vanagon's vent wing seal is a straightforward job for most DIYers with some patience. We recommend carefully removing the old seal and cleaning the window frame thoroughly before installing the new one. Using a bit of soapy water can help ease the new seal into position. Allow time for the seal to adjust and form a good, tight fit.

What material is this vent wing seal made from, and does it last?

This vent wing seal is made from high-quality, automotive-grade rubber that creates a tight seal against wind and water. It’s designed to match original Vanagon specifications for excellent durability and reliable performance in all weather conditions. Many customers report a significant improvement in wind noise and weather resistance after installation.

How can I ensure this seal will fit properly before I buy?

Before purchasing, inspect your left side vent wing to confirm it uses a seal without a groove—look for a smooth frame rather than one with a recessed channel. Double-check Vanagon model year and side (this is for the left/driver’s side). Buying the correct style avoids fitment issues and ensures your vent window seals out noise and water just like the original.
