This GoWesty Cruise Control Kit is designed to replace your prone-to-failure, and no-longer-available (NLA) OEM cruise control electronic control unit behind the glove box and all the pneumatic parts and hoses in the engine compartment, on the body, and under the dashboard. Fits:  Any year and model Vanagon originally fitted with cruise control from the factory (OEM cruise).

The GoWesty cruise control unit included in this kit mounts behind the glove box-similar to where the OEM cruise control electronic control unit is located. But that is where the similarity ends! The GoWesty unit control unit is an all-in-one control unit and servo assembly, greatly simplifying the entire system and serviceable for years to come.

Instead of the original failure-prone pneumatic system for which no replacement parts are available, the GoWesty system operates the throttle pedal directly via a clever and reliable cable system designed right here at GoWesty by Cal Poly engineers! The throttle pull-cable runs from the control unit behind the glove box through the grommets where the heater control cable passes, just forward of the shift lever, and pulls directly on the accelerator pedal linkage. No hoses, diaphragms, or vacuum pumps to fail!

This GoWesty cruise kit uses your original, OEM vehicle speed sensor (VSS) mounted on the back of your speedometer for speed reference, as well as your existing control switch located on the end of your turn signal switch, and your existing foot pedal canceling switch(s). If any of this is broken or missing, we have replacements for any of these items. If all are broken or missing, we recommend our GoWesty Cruise Control-Add Kit instead of this kit-that kit does not rely on any of the OEM cruise control system parts, at all.

Important product note & disclaimer: This cruise control system is the most technologically advanced product available for a Vanagon. It is designed to reduce driver fatigue over long stretches of primarily flat highway. It is not wise to use cruise control in heavy traffic, in highly populated areas, or on winding and hilly roads. It should also be known that this system does not have the ability to upshift or downshift your vehicle, nor can it be expected to maintain your chosen vehicle speed at all times, over all terrains. Given the fact that Vanagons are relatively underpowered, and feature non electronically-controlled transaxles, there will be occasions where an incline is encountered that is simply too steep for this cruise control system to maintain speed, and it will auto-disengage.This feature is designed to protect you and your vehicle, and is an indication that the system is functioning properly. Not recommended for use under 45MPH.
