Will this Locker illumination switch kit work on my 1988 Vanagon Westfalia with manual transmission?

Yes! This Locker switch kit is specifically designed for 1986-1991 Vanagon models, including the Westfalia with manual transmissions and 4WD. So your 1988 Westfalia fits perfectly.

I'm having trouble with my locking differential light not coming on. How does this kit help?

If your locking differential or decoupler engagement light isn't illuminating, the switch could be faulty. This kit replaces that reverse light switch and includes everything needed to reconnect it, restoring the indicator light function.

Does the kit come with installation instructions? I’m not a pro mechanic.

The kit doesn’t include step-by-step instructions, so we recommend using your Bentley Repair Manual for guidance. If you’re not confident installing it yourself, a professional mechanic familiar with Vanagon transaxle work would be a good option.

What parts come in the kit? Will I need to buy anything else to install it?

The kit includes the reverse light switch, a special adapter for your transaxle or decoupler, a crush washer, and electrical connectors. Generally, that's all you need to replace the switch unless you want to use extra wiring tools or supplies.

Is this kit compatible with automatic transmissions or only manuals?

This kit is designed exclusively for manual transmission Vanagons from 1986-1991 with 4WD. If your Vanagon has an automatic transmission, this kit won’t be compatible.
