What exactly does the Second Battery Relay do for my Vanagon or Eurovan?

This Second Battery Relay acts as an automatic switch. It connects your auxiliary (second) battery to your vehicle's charging system when the engine is running, ensuring your second battery stays charged. When the engine is off, it isolates the second battery from the main battery, preventing your starter battery from being drained. This is essential for running accessories like lights, refrigerators, or electronics from your auxiliary battery without worrying about starting your van.

Will this Second Battery Relay work with my specific 84-91 Vanagon or 93-03 Eurovan (2WD/4WD, Westfalia, Weekender)?

Yes, this Second Battery Relay (part number 411-915-511B) is designed to be compatible with 1984-1991 Vanagon models, including all trims like Westfalia Campers and Weekenders, and 2WD/4WD variants. It also fits 1993-2003 Eurovan models, specifically the Weekender MV trim, also in both 2WD and 4WD configurations. It's a direct solution for adding or maintaining a reliable dual-battery setup in these vehicles.

Is installing this Second Battery Relay difficult? Where can I find instructions?

While installation involves wiring, it's a straightforward process for most DIYers. We provide a helpful YouTube video guide linked on the product page that walks you through the installation step-by-step. The relay itself is designed for easy integration into your existing electrical system. If you're comfortable with basic automotive electrical work, you should be able to install it without much trouble.

Why is a dedicated Second Battery Relay better than a simple manual switch?

A dedicated Second Battery Relay offers significant advantages over a manual switch. It automatically manages the charging and discharging of your auxiliary battery, so you don't have to remember to flip a switch. This automatic operation ensures your second battery is always ready when you need it and protects your main starter battery from drain, providing a much more reliable and convenient power solution for your camping trips. This smart Relay is key for a seamless dual-battery experience.
