To ensure a complete repair and prevent future issues, you'll also need the wiper portion of the switch. I have a 1988 Vanagon with an automatic. Will this shifter switch contact fit my vehicle, and is it a quality part?

Absolutely! This Shifter Switch Contact (311-927-147B) is designed to fit all Vanagon models from 1980 to 1991 equipped with automatic transmissions, including your 1988. It's a quality aftermarket replacement, ensuring reliable performance for your vehicle's neutral safety switch system.

What exactly does this shifter switch contact do for my automatic transmission Vanagon?

This specific contact is a key piece of your neutral safety switch. Its main job is to tell your van's computer whether the transmission is in Park or Neutral. This is essential for allowing the engine to start. If these contacts wear out, you might experience starting problems, with the van only starting sometimes or not at all when in Park or Neutral.

I'm looking to buy the neutral safety switch parts for my automatic Vanagon. Is it better to buy this contact separately or get the bundle?

For a complete and reliable repair of your neutral safety switch system, it's highly recommended to replace both the shifter switch contact and the wiper portion. Purchasing them together as a bundle offers a noticeable cost savings compared to buying them individually. This ensures you have all the necessary components for a proper fix.
