Will this Coolant Warning Tag fit my Vanagon, and how do I check?

This Coolant Warning Tag is designed to fit all watercooled Volkswagen Vanagons from 1983.5 to 1991. To ensure compatibility, check that your Vanagon uses a coolant expansion tank. This tag hangs right on the tank and serves as a reminder to use phosphate-free coolant with distilled water. It's a straightforward fit—no modifications needed for these model years.

What’s the difference between the bare aluminum and black powder coated Coolant Warning Tags, and how do I pick the right one for my tank?

Both tag versions share the same reminder message and fit, but their finishes are different. The bare aluminum tag matches the look of a natural metal tank, while the black powder coated tag is ideal for tanks that are black plastic or powder coated black. Simply choose the finish that best matches your tank's appearance for a more cohesive engine bay look. If your expansion tank is black, the powder coated tag blends in best; if it’s silver metal, the bare aluminum is a great match.

How do I install the Coolant Warning Tag, and what benefits does it offer?

Installation is easy: just hang the tag on the neck of your Vanagon’s coolant expansion tank. The tag serves as a helpful reminder to always use phosphate-free coolant mixed with distilled water – critical for protecting your cooling system. This simple addition can help prevent expensive repairs caused by improper coolant types. No tools or modifications required!
