Will this original VW Vanagon key blank work for my specific Vanagon model and year?

Yes, this genuine VW key blank (part number 251-837-219A-OEM) is designed to fit all Vanagon models produced from 1980 through 1991. This includes all 2WD and 4WD variants, as well as different trim levels like Westfalia and Weekender, regardless of whether you have an automatic or manual transmission. It's intended for both the ignition and door locks.

Why do I need a professional locksmith to cut this steel Vanagon key blank?

This is an original Volkswagen key blank made from durable steel. Because steel is a harder material than brass, which is commonly used for key blanks, it requires specialized cutting equipment and expertise to ensure a precise and correct cut. We highly recommend using a professional locksmith familiar with automotive keys to avoid damaging the key blank or your locks.

I lost my only Vanagon key. Can I get this key blank cut to make a new one?

Absolutely! This is the perfect solution for replacing lost keys. Since it's an original VW key blank, once it's properly cut by a locksmith, it will function just like your original key for both the ignition and door locks. It's sold individually, so you can order one to get a replacement key made.

Is buying an original VW key blank better than a universal one for my Vanagon?

For your Vanagon, sticking with an original VW (OEM) key blank like this one ensures the best fit and function for your ignition and door locks. Original parts are manufactured to meet VW's exact specifications, reducing the chance of issues after cutting compared to generic blanks. This steel key blank is the specific type originally supplied for your vehicle.
