Will this new power steering rack fit my 1985 Vanagon GL with left-hand drive?

Yes! This brand-new power steering rack is compatible with all 1980-1991 left-hand drive Vanagon models originally equipped with power steering—covering 2WD, 4WD, all trims, and all transmissions. Just double-check that your Vanagon was factory-equipped with power steering, and you'll be good to go.

What’s included with this power steering rack, and what else do I need to buy for installation?

The product is a "short rack," so you get a brand-new power steering rack (undefined part number 251-422-061) but the tie rod assemblies and rubber boots are not included—they’re available separately. For a complete install, you’ll need to purchase tie rods, boots, and a new power steering reservoir filter (needed for warranty coverage).

Do I need to send back my old steering rack or pay a core charge when buying this?

No core charge or core return is required for this power steering rack! You're buying a brand-new, quality aftermarket rack outright, making the purchase quick and hassle-free.

The mounting pads look out of place after shipping—should I be concerned?

Not at all! Sometimes, the mounting pads on the rack may shift during shipping, but you can simply rotate them back into the correct position by hand before installation. This won’t affect the function or installation of your new rack.

What are the warranty requirements for this new Vanagon power steering rack?

To qualify for the 1-year warranty, you MUST replace the power steering reservoir filter during installation and provide proof of that filter purchase in case of any claim. This ensures the new rack is protected from contaminants and helps keep your steering system running smoothly.
