Will this coolant hose fit my 1988 Vanagon with a manual transmission?

Yes, this hose is designed to fit 1986-1991 Vanagon models including manual transmissions. However, some customers have reported a slight fit issue related to shift coupling clearance with manual transmissions. We're currently investigating this, but it generally fits well for most manual setups.

Can I use this hose if my Vanagon has an automatic transaxle?

If your Vanagon has an automatic transaxle, this hose will only fit properly when used together with the External Cooler Kit. Without that kit, compatibility isn't guaranteed. So be sure to get the cooler kit to ensure a proper fit on automatic models.

Is this hose an exact replacement for the original German-made one?

Yes! This Quality Aftermarket hose matches the exact dimensions of the original OE German hose, which is no longer available. That means you can expect a perfect fit and performance very close to the original part for your Vanagon.

Will this hose work for all Vanagon models like the Westfalia Camper or Multivan?

Absolutely. This hose fits a range of 1986-1991 Vanagon models including 2WD, 7-Passenger, Campmobile, Carat/Hard Top Weekender, Multivan, Passenger, Westfalia Camper, Westfalia Weekender MV, and Wolfsburg Weekender — covering the popular Vanagon variants.

Are there any installation tips to ensure a smooth fit when replacing the radiator to thermostat hose?

We recommend checking that all hose clamps are secure but not over-tightened to avoid damaging the hose. Make sure the hose is routed without kinks or sharp bends. For automatic transaxles, remember to install the External Cooler Kit first. Also, if you have a manual transmission, keep an eye out for shift coupling clearance during installation due to the noted fit feedback.
