Need a new plastic nut for your side marker lens? These are sold each, and you'll need two (2) per marker lens.
NOTE: Two (2) required per light.
Installation tip: This is a genuine VW part, but it is not exactly like the original one VW installed on Vanagons. The face is square, not rectangular. It may rotate when you try to insert the screw. If this happens, simply remove the tail light lens, reach in with a pair of pliers, and hold it so that it does not turn.
These replacements just spin in the holes rather than accept a screw. I tried pushing hard on the side marker but to no avail. Finally, jamming a thin screwdriver into it helped me to get most of the screw in. I’m going to remove the taillight and pull the side marker off by clamping the spinner from behind and then epoxy it to the vehicle. Hopefully, that will make it as durable as the originals. This may be the best option that you can find today, but it’s certainly not originally made for a Vanagon.
Plastic side marker nuts are nice to have in your small parts bin. Nice to have when you need it. Thanks GoWesty for stocking these must have items . Good price, Excellent quality. 5 Stars. R/Jeff
The speed nut is meant to engage in the back of the lens housing preventing rotation during installation. Theses nuts are too small to engage. Caveat: I am using an original equipment lens. Perhaps the reproductions are sized differently? Apparently, the mismatch is a known issue with this particular product.
On another note, I am using the gasket between the body and the lens. The additional depth created makes the speed nut to lens engagement even more difficult.
I ended up buying some glue-on barrel nuts mounted on discs and 8mm machine screws. I used Very High Bond (VHB) tape to secure the flanged barrel nuts to the interior body panel aligned with the holes made to accept the speed nuts.
I have spent thousands of dollars with GoWesty as I love virtually all of their products i.e. GW fuel injection (love it!), 2.3 Liter motor (Power!!!), and so much more (And so does my Vanagon). I also welcome their expertise. But its time to go back to the drawing board on this one!
Much better than 40 year old plastic
fits just like the factory one
