Will this Syncro speedometer cable fit my Vanagon, and what should I check before ordering?

This speedometer cable is specifically designed for 1986–1991 4WD (Syncro) Vanagon models, including 7-Passenger, Campmobile, Multivan, Passenger, Westfalia Camper, and Wolfsburg Weekender with manual transmissions. It will not work with 2WD Vanagons or other years. Before ordering, double-check your Vanagon’s year, model, and drive type to ensure this cable is the correct fit for your vehicle.

How does the single-piece aftermarket speedometer cable compare to the original stock cable in my Syncro?

The single-piece design of this Quality Aftermarket cable bypasses the original black EGR box that’s tied to the oxygen sensor light. This simplifies installation, reduces the risk of cable noise (no more squealing or 'screaming cable!'), and eliminates a common failure point found in the stock setup. Many Vanagon owners notice improved reliability and quieter operation after upgrading to this cable.

Are there any installation tips or common issues to watch out for when replacing my Syncro's speedometer cable?

Replacing your Syncro’s speedometer cable is a straightforward process, but make sure to route the new single-piece cable away from moving parts and sharp edges to avoid damage. Since this cable bypasses the EGR box, ensure you properly disconnect the old cable at both ends and secure any remaining wires. Take your time when attaching the cable to the speedometer head for a snug, noise-free fit. If you hear any lingering noise, double-check the cable’s routing and connections.
