What exactly does this intake manifold hose connect on my older VW?

This specific intake manifold hose connects the intake manifold to the air distribution housing on your late Bay Window Bus (1975-1979 Aircooled 2000cc) or your early Vanagon (1980-1985 Waterboxer 1900cc). It's crucial for ensuring a proper air-fuel mixture.

How many of these hoses do I actually need for my Bus or Vanagon?

You will need a total of four intake manifold hoses per vehicle. The product description is sold individually, so be sure to add four to your cart to replace all of them at once.

My current hoses look okay, why should I worry about replacing this intake manifold hose?

Even if your current hoses appear intact, they can develop hairline cracks over time due to heat and age. These small cracks create vacuum leaks, leading to rough idling, poor performance, decreased fuel economy, and potentially difficult starting. Replacing them proactively with this quality hose prevents these issues.

Will this intake manifold hose fit both my air-cooled and waterboxer VW models?

Yes, this intake manifold hose is designed to fit both the 1975-1985 2000cc Aircooled models (late Bay Window Bus) and the 1980-1985 1900cc Waterboxer models (early Vanagon). It's a direct replacement part for both.
