Will this body panel fit my Vanagon, and how do I choose the correct side?

Yes, this replacement front lower quarter body panel will fit all 1980–91 Volkswagen Vanagon models. It's important to specify whether you need the driver or passenger side when ordering, as the panels are shaped for each specific side at the turn signal area of your Vanagon. Double-check your vehicle and select the correct option to ensure an exact fit.

Is this panel genuine VW or aftermarket, and will it match the quality of my original?

This panel is a quality aftermarket reproduction, not a genuine Volkswagen (VW) part. It's manufactured to closely follow the dimensions and contours of the original, making it ideal for rust repair or restoration projects. While you may notice slight finish variations typical of aftermarket products, it is designed with long-lasting durability and a strong fit in mind.

What should I expect regarding the finish — is the panel ready to paint and install?

The panels are shipped as either bare metal or with a basic primer coating, depending on the supplier's current batch. Some minor scuffs or surface marks may be present from manufacturing and shipping, but these do not affect the function or structural integrity of the panel. We recommend prepping the surface with a thorough cleaning, light sanding, and additional primer before painting to match your Vanagon.

How challenging is it to install this lower quarter panel myself?

Installing the front lower quarter panel usually requires cutting out the old, rusty section and welding the new panel in its place. While many Vanagon owners with bodywork experience tackle this themselves, those new to sheet metal repair may want to consult a professional. Either way, the panel is designed to fit at the turn signal area, streamlining the repair or restoration process for your Vanagon.

How is this panel shipped, and what if it arrives with scratches or minor dents?

Your body panel will be securely packaged for delivery, but due to its size and shape you might see some light scuffs or surface imperfections from handling. This is common with sheet metal parts and does not affect the panel’s performance or your finished results, as the panel requires prep work before painting. GoWesty stands behind all shipments and will assist promptly if your package is damaged beyond these expected marks.
