Will this coolant hose fit my 1988 Vanagon, regardless of the trim or transmission type?

Yes, this Thermostat Housing to 'T' Bleed Pipe Coolant Hose is designed specifically for all water-cooled 2.1 Vanagons from 1986 to 1991. It’s compatible with every trim level—including 7-Passenger, Westfalia, Wolfsburg Weekender, Carat, and Multivan—and works for both automatic and manual transmissions. If your Vanagon matches these years and engine, this hose will fit right in.

Can I use this hose with aftermarket stainless steel pipes, or is it only for the original VW plastic setup?

You can use this coolant hose with either the original VW plastic pipes or upgraded GoWesty stainless steel pipes. It's built to fit both systems perfectly, so you don’t have to worry about compatibility, whether you’re keeping things factory or upgrading your cooling system.

Is this aftermarket coolant hose reliable, and what should I expect for installation?

This hose is made by a trusted quality aftermarket manufacturer and built to meet or exceed OEM specs for lasting durability. Installation is straightforward: simply remove your old hose and replace it with this one, making sure both ends attach securely to the thermostat housing and bleed pipe. We always recommend checking for leaks after installation and ensuring all clamps are tightened properly to keep your Vanagon’s cooling system running smoothly.
