Will this headlight adjuster fit my Vanagon?

How many adjusters do I need to order for my headlights?

For each headlight assembly, you’ll need two adjusters—so a total of four if you want to replace all the lower driving lens adjusters on both sides. If you’re installing the H4 upgrade kit, order four adjusters to cover both upgraded headlights. It’s a good idea to have a couple of spares on hand, as these adjusters are known to be a bit fragile during installation.

Any tips for installing these adjusters without breaking them?

Great question—these adjusters can be a little delicate. We recommend watching the installation video linked on this product page before starting. During install, go slow and don’t force anything. Line everything up carefully before tightening. Applying a dab of grease to the threads can also help things go smoothly. If you encounter resistance, back off and check alignment to avoid snapping the plastic.

Don't worry about it. Adjusters are worth every penny

My 91 Vanagon was hit headon by a barage of tiny sized objects that made several snaggles and small cracks and pit marks in the windshield and paint including a small hole in the right headlamp. On a rainy night the halogen headlamp burning water vapor into fog inside the lens making the headlight worthless punctuating the need for a new lens. Finding them with difficulty made it more interesting. With the new lens out and having to replace the old adjusters I was petrified. So I turned to the helpful GoWesty video and after 3 or 4 viewings I had the idea. I thought. I still screwed up the installation but after a complete meltdown the removal of the adjuster and re-inserting them properly I made it. Easy piesy! Adjusting the headlight took a little time but it was almost effortless.

This part was not made well. The space which allows insertion into the hole and then ROTATE was too narrow. I had to take a blade to cut away some plastic to allow it to be rotated.

Headlight Adjusters

I feel VW really messed up with this design for headlight adjusters: The plastic is fragile and difficult to install without breaking. I ended up breaking two new ones and ordering more. Nothing bad on Go Westy, tho. I'm glad they are still available because they will once again fail, no doubt. I wonder if metal ones could be fabricated...
