This oil pressure switch was used only on 86-91 year models which were fitted with the "dynamic oil pressure warning system." Its pressure ranges are .75-1.05 BAR. It fits on rear of engine near oil pump, and is gray in color. This switch is NORMALLY OPEN, and CLOSES between .75 and 1.05 BAR, which translates to 11-15 psi.
NOTE: We have exhaustively tested all of the aftermarket switches on the market that we could get our hands on. We found the pressure ranges on the other aftermarket brands to be highly variable, and now exclusively carry Febi switches.
Note:
I decided to replace mine because I kept getting an oil light and it appeared to be leaking out of the switch. I have yet to get it installed because I stripped it out when I put it in. So I am ordering a new one.
To get access to the plug take off the 3 bolts to the water pump pulley. 24 mm deep socket to take the plug off. It should be 22 foot lbs for the adapter to the engine then 18 foot lbs for the sensor into the adapter. My torque wrench wouldnt fit while torquing in the sensor so i guessed... leaving me with a broken sensor. TORQUE IT TO SPEC.
Works as expected and no more leaks - love it! Strong recommendation!
I don’t think mine were bad, but they weren’t that expensive and I wanted the piece of mind.
This was a must have to add to my go bag of spare parts. Thanks Go Westy
My 87 Vanagon oil light came on, as well as the buzzer. I had a new original switch, put that in, same problem. I discovered Go Westy had an alternate switch, ordered it, put it in, problem solved! Thanks Go Westy!
