Why does this Vanagon windshield seal come without a groove?

This windshield seal is designed without a groove to accommodate the now-obsolete chrome molding that was originally featured on some Vanagon models. If you're not planning to reuse your old, potentially damaged chrome molding, this grooveless seal is the perfect choice. It provides a clean look and effectively seals your windshield.

What's the difference between the German and USA-made Vanagon windshield seals?

We offer both German and USA-made windshield seal options. Both are excellent quality and will perform their function well. The German seals tend to be slightly easier to install, especially in colder weather. We're working with the USA manufacturer to match the German material more closely, aiming for a similar installation feel.

Is installing this new Vanagon windshield seal something I can do myself?

Replacing a Vanagon windshield seal is a challenging task, regardless of the seal's origin. We highly recommend professional installation if you're not experienced. If you choose to DIY, remember that window seals are significantly easier to install when the temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit or warmer. Using a heat gun or letting it sit in the sun after applying it to the glass can help.

A good windshield seal should be on everyone's "Vanagon improvement" top ten list. It keeps moisture out and your feet dry, while deterring rust in that notorious Vanagon windowsill. In addition, you will be stopping water from dripping on your fuse block and thereby avoiding a whole host of electrical gremlins. A nice, new, non-crusty seal looks great, too!
