Will this Rear Shift Rod fit my 2WD Vanagon?

This Rear Shift Rod is specifically designed for all 2WD Vanagons with manual transaxles produced from mid-1983 (1983.5) through 1991. If your Vanagon falls within these model years and is a 2WD manual, this shift rod is a direct fit and a great choice for restoring smooth shifting.

What makes the GoWesty Rear Shift Rod reliable and worth upgrading?

The GoWesty Rear Shift Rod is engineered for durability and precise fitment, using high-quality materials that match or exceed original specifications. Replacing your worn or bent shift rod with this new part eliminates play and slop in your shifter, resulting in a more positive and reliable shifting experience on your Vanagon.

Is the Rear Shift Rod difficult to install, and do I need any special tools?

Installing the Rear Shift Rod is a straightforward process for anyone comfortable with basic hand tools and some under-car work. No specialized VW tools are required. We recommend reviewing the installation instructions beforehand, making sure you have a safe way to lift your Vanagon, and checking for worn bushings or hardware to replace at the same time for an optimal shifter feel.
