How many of these instrument cluster bulbs do I actually need for my Vanagon dash lights?

The number of bulbs you'll need depends on your specific Vanagon's instrument cluster. If your dash doesn't have a digital clock or a tachometer, you'll need 3 bulbs. That goes up to 4 bulbs if your Vanagon is equipped with both a digital clock and a tachometer. It's always a good idea to grab an extra just in case!

Will this bulb and socket fit my 1985 Vanagon Westfalia's locker panel lights?

Yes, this bulb and socket combo is designed to fit the locker and decoupler control panel on 1986-1991 Vanagon Syncros. It's a quality aftermarket replacement that works with all Vanagon years from 1980 to 1991, including 2WD and 4WD models, and various trims like the Westfalia. Whether you have an automatic or manual transmission, this should fit.

Are these bulbs bright enough to actually see my Vanagon gauges at night?

These are designed to be direct replacements for your stock Vanagon instrument illumination bulbs, providing the correct brightness for clear visibility of your gauges and control panel. They'll help you see your speed, fuel level, and those important locker controls, especially when driving after dark.

Is this a difficult repair for a DIYer on my Vanagon?

Replacing these bulbs is generally a straightforward DIY task for most Vanagon owners. The socket design allows for easy removal and installation. You'll typically need basic tools and a little patience to access the instrument cluster or locker panel, but it's a very common and rewarding repair that doesn't require specialized knowledge.
