My rear brake caliper on my Vanagon is worn out. Can I just buy this bare caliper, or do I need the bracket too?

This is a bare caliper, meaning it does not come with the carrier bracket. If your existing carrier bracket is in good condition, you can indeed purchase just this bare caliper to replace your old one. It's designed specifically as a replacement when you already have the bracket. Just make sure to confirm this part is compatible with your specific Vanagon year.

Will this passenger side rear caliper fit my 1985 Vanagon, or do I need to check something specific?

Yes, this rear passenger side caliper is designed to fit your 1985 Vanagon. It's a direct replacement for the GoWesty Rear Disc Brake Kit. We recommend always double-checking the specific year range mentioned in the product description to ensure perfect compatibility with your vehicle.

I have a 1999 Eurovan. Is this caliper the right part, and what else might I need?

For your 1999 Eurovan, this bare rear passenger side caliper will fit, but you'll also need to purchase the early caliper bracket separately as it's not included. For 2001-2003 Eurovans, this caliper is a direct replacement, assuming your bracket is still good.

What's the difference between buying a 'bare' caliper and one that includes the bracket?

A 'bare' caliper, like this one, is just the caliper body itself, excluding the bracket that mounts it to the suspension. You'd buy a bare caliper if your existing bracket is still in good shape and you only need to replace the caliper. If your bracket is also damaged or worn, you would typically need to purchase a caliper that includes the bracket, or buy both parts separately.

I'm working on my 1977 Bus's rear brakes. If I buy this bare caliper, is that all I need besides normal brake pads and fluid?

If you're replacing the caliper on your 1977 Bus for the GoWesty Rear Disc Brake Kit and your current caliper bracket is in good condition, then yes, this bare caliper is the correct component you'll need for that side. You would install your new brake pads into this caliper and re-use your existing bracket.
