These Bilstein twin-tube gas-charged shocks are a direct replacement for the no-longer-available original equipment manufacturer (OEM) BOGE/Sach shock absorbers. They feature dampening much closer to the shocks that came on all Syncro models originally, but are a gas-pressure design like the Old Man Emu variety. This translates to a similar ride to the OEM shock with much higher heat capacity (off-road driving) like the Old Man Emu shocks. They are a great option for anyone looking for a super high-quality, German-made replacement shock absorber that can handle more heat like the Old Man Emu, but is not nearly as stiff. We highly recommend them over the Old Man Emu shocks for lighter-weight Vanagon Syncro models, like hard-top and single and double cab trucks. These are not FOX shocks, mind you, but for the price, they're hard to beat!

Syncro shock options and applications:
• Boge: This original shock is no longer available.
• Bilstein Touring: For all Syncro models requiring a "factory ride." Great for tin-tops and trucks.
• Old Man Emu: For pop-top Syncros. Too stiff for tin-top, single/double-cab trucks.
• Fox Shocks: For all Syncro models requiring improved handling, durability, and service life.

Includes two front and two rear shocks.

INSTALLATION TIP FOR FRONT SHOCKS: If your Syncro has stamped steel lower control arms (1986-88), you might find that your lower shock bolts have been overtightened (very common). This crushes the mounting sleeve of the lower shock mount slightly. When the old shock is removed, the inside dimension where the shock was fitted is now smaller than it was originally, which makes fitting a new shock with a new (non-crushed) sleeve difficult. We recommend using the old shock as a pry bar to widen the space slightly making way for this shiny new shock.
