This adapter fitting kit is used to join the soft rubber fuel line to the hard plastic fuel line. Two are used on the high-pressure fuel supply side (also eliminating the failure-prone plastic firewall fitting), and two more can be used on the low-pressure return side. Volkswagen originally stuck the hardline into the soft line and hose clamped them together on the return side since it is low-pressure, however we prefer the more secure connection of these adapter fittings. We recommend ordering and installing two kits (four adapters) for a durable connection and greater peace of mind.
Fits: All 1980-91 2WD Vanagon. Not required for Syncro 4WD
Kit includes:
• (2) Barbed Aluminum Adapter Fittings
• (4) Stainless Ear Clamps
Installation requires Ear Clamp Pincer Pliers
The old plastic fitting cracked and started leaking. Don’t have to worry about that anymore. Snug fit.
Cleaner connection than sliding the two hoses over each other.

The multi-diameter splice is a good product, and a decent solution to the plastic transition piece located on the firewall. That said, I believe a better solution is to run new fuel line from the supply tee to the fuel filter and bypass the hard line to fuel line transition that is located DIRECTLY ABOVE the starter. The fuel fitting was placed on the firewall only for the convenience of factory assembly. If you ever need to disconnect the fuel line from the engine it is as easy to remove it from the t-fitting as it is to remove it from the plastic firewall fitting. Same is true for the return line.
