How do I know if this vent wing seal without groove fits my Vanagon?

This right-side seal is made specifically for Vanagon models that use the non-grooved style vent wing seal. If your current seal doesn't have a groove running along it, or if you're replacing an original seal on a Vanagon without a groove, this is likely the part you need. For best fit, double-check your existing passenger-side (right) vent wing to ensure there's no groove for the seal before ordering.

Which Vanagon years and models will this seal work with?

This right-side vent wing seal without groove is compatible with many 1980-1991 Vanagons, but only fits the versions that originally used the non-grooved seal. It's always a good idea to compare your old seal against the product pictures, or contact us with your VIN if you're unsure about your model's seal style!

What's the difference between this 'without groove' seal and the grooved version?

The main difference is in how the seal mounts to your vent wing window. Some Vanagons use a vent wing frame designed for a grooved seal, while others use a smooth (non-groove) style. If your van's window doesn't have a groove, you'll need this 'without groove' style. Choosing the right one makes installation easier and ensures a tight, weatherproof fit!

Is it hard to install this seal myself?

Most Vanagon owners report that swapping this seal at home is pretty straightforward with some basic tools and patience. There are step-by-step guides online, and GoWesty is happy to offer advice if you get stuck. Reviewers note the seal fits well and is much simpler to install than it looks—just take your time and check for a snug, even seal to keep out leaks and wind noise.

What if I order the wrong seal—can I return or exchange it?

Absolutely! If you accidentally buy the wrong vent wing seal, GoWesty makes returns and exchanges easy. Just make sure the seal is unused and get in touch with customer service with your order info. Our team is known for their Vanagon know-how and will help you get the right part, hassle-free.
