A superior solution is available! Check out our Heavy-Duty Anodized Aluminum Coolant Hose Junction

There were three different coolant junctions used on the 2WD Vanagon. The part numbers of the early ones (1986-87) ended in -438 (manual transaxle) and -438A (automatic transaxle) and the later (1988-91) part number ended in -438B (all transaxles).

If you are wanting the original plastic junction, we only carry the later -438B because it accepts a superior hose (251-121-130B) that runs between it and the passenger side cylinder head, with a longer sweep that flexes less and lasts longer. It is in your best interests to update to this hose.

Fits:  All 1986-91 2WD Vanagon only. Will not fit 4WD Syncro.

Ordering and fitment notes:

• If your van already has the 251-121-130B hose, all you need to buy is a new -438B coolant junction, and you are all set.

• If your van has a -438 or -438A junction you will also need to buy the 251-025-130B hose.

• If your van has an automatic transmission it will have a -438A, you need to buy the 251-025-130B hose do ONE of the two options below:

1) Buy a 5/8” T-fitting because the -438B junction we offer is missing the nipple that feeds the original automatic transmission cooler.

2) Replace the original coolant-fed ATF cooler with one of our external ATF cooler which is highly recommended, read this article to learn why.
