Will this screw fit the sliding door handle and automatic transmission oil strainer on all 1980-91 Volkswagen Vanagons?

Yes, this screw is designed to provide a precise fit for all 1980–91 Volkswagen Vanagon models, including Westfalia and Syncro (both 2WD and 4WD, automatic and manual transmissions). Whether you're replacing the sliding door handle screw or the AT oil strainer fastener, you can count on proper fitment for your Vanagon.

How many screws do I need to replace the sliding door handle or the automatic transmission oil strainer on my Vanagon?

For the sliding door handle, only 1 screw is typically required per handle. For the automatic transmission oil strainer, 3 screws are needed to secure the strainer to the transmission. Be sure to order the exact quantity you need based on your specific project.

Is this screw made of stainless steel? How does it compare to standard screws for longevity?

Yes, this GoWesty screw is made from high-quality stainless steel, making it significantly more resistant to corrosion than regular steel screws. This means it will hold up better against moisture and the elements in both the sliding door and the underside of your Vanagon, ensuring long-lasting durability and fewer worries about rust or premature wear.

Can I use this screw for both manual and automatic Vanagons, including different body types like Westfalia and Syncro?

Absolutely! This screw is universal for 1980–91 Vanagon models, fitting both manual and automatic transmissions, as well as all body styles—Westfalia campers, passenger vans, Carat, and Syncro models. Its precise fit ensures compatibility across the full range of Vanagons from this era.

What installation tips or troubleshooting advice do you have for choosing the right screw for my Vanagon’s sliding door or AT oil strainer?

To pick the correct screw, always confirm your Vanagon is model year 1980–91 and that you need a replacement for either the sliding door handle or automatic transmission oil strainer. When installing, use the correct driver to avoid stripping the screw head, and don't overtighten, especially when securing the oil strainer to avoid warping the gasket. If you're unsure, compare your old screw to the product photo—this stainless screw matches the original size and thread for both applications for easy, error-free installation.
