Will this GoWesty Vanagon tie rod assembly fit my specific model and year?

Yes, this tie rod assembly is designed specifically for all Volkswagen Vanagon models from 1980 to 1991. It fits both 2WD and 4WD (Syncro) versions, regardless of manual or automatic transmission. If you own any Vanagon from those years, this part will fit perfectly with your steering system.

How does the quality and durability of this tie rod assembly compare to the original VW part?

GoWesty sources quality aftermarket tie rod assemblies that meet or exceed OEM specifications. Many Vanagon owners report in their reviews that these assemblies are just as durable as the originals, and sometimes even better in terms of construction and longevity. They’ve been tested on road trips, off-road adventures, and daily driving—giving you confidence in your steering performance.

How many of these tie rod assemblies do I need for my Vanagon, and is hardware included?

Every Vanagon requires two tie rod assemblies: one for each side of the vehicle. Each assembly from GoWesty comes complete and ready to install, including the ball joint and ends. You won't need to order any extra hardware for a standard replacement—just order the quantity you need for your full replacement (usually 2 for both sides).

Can I install this tie rod assembly myself and will I need a wheel alignment afterward?

Many Vanagon owners with basic mechanical skills successfully install these tie rod assemblies themselves using standard tools. GoWesty recommends getting a professional wheel alignment immediately after installation, as replacing tie rods affects your steering geometry. There’s no need to modify other stock or aftermarket steering components—this assembly is a direct replacement.

Will this tie rod assembly work with other steering components, or does it differ from OEM in length or appearance?

This GoWesty Vanagon tie rod assembly matches the OEM design in both length and appearance, so it will integrate seamlessly with your stock or aftermarket steering parts. If you’re mixing it with other brand parts, check to make sure those are also standard dimensions for 1980-91 Vanagons. This assembly helps solve steering play and stability issues by restoring your van’s original handling feel.
