Protect your Syncro where it matters most. This downloadable package includes detailed CAD drawings and design files for a skid plate engineered to shield your coolant pipes and shift linkage at their most vulnerable points. We came up with this idea from personal experience in our own Syncros camping and racing in the NORRA 1000 rally.

If you have ever been belly-deep in sand in your Syncro, you probably found it pretty hard to shift. This is because the sand gets all around the rear shift-shaft and thus restricts its movement, sometimes making it impossible to get into gear and OUT of the sand. VW made a half-hearted attempt at improving the design 1989 with the introduction of a plastic tube around the rear shift shaft. It did not work very well to improve shifting when the vehicle is buried in sand, and does not thing to really protect the sensitive underbelly parts from other dangers, so we came up with this product.

Not only will this skid plate actually keep sand away from the rear shift shaft at its lowest point, it doubles as a skid plate to protect it and the coolant pipes right next to it from rocks and such. This is a Syncro must-have!

As part of our new line of digital download resources, your purchase includes everything you need to build the product yourself—complete with technical drawings and a full bill of materials, including hardware. Whether you're a professional fabricator or a hands-on hobbyist, these files are designed to help you confidently source materials and execute your build with accuracy and efficiency.

Inside the downloadable folder, you may find that some parts come with a DXF file. DXF stands for “Drawing Exchange Format,” and it’s a type of vector file used to describe parts in two dimensions. DXF files are commonly used in design and manufacturing processes, particularly when laser cutting or bending sheet metal is involved.

While we understand that not everyone has access to a laser cutter or press brake, DXF files are still incredibly useful. They provide highly accurate measurements, perfect for anyone building with just a hacksaw and a dream.

To open or modify a DXF file, you’ll need CAD software. Fusion 360 offers a free personal-use version on their website that lets you inspect and customize DXF files. Alternatively, custom sheet metal fabrication services like SendCutSend accept DXF files and can cut and form parts for you.

Have fun fabbing!
