THIS PRODUCT IS A DIGITAL DOWNLOAD - NOT A PHYSICAL PRODUCT
Build your own bolt-on front skid plate for all 2WD & 4WD Vanagon models that can withstand some serious abuse with this digital download kit. We have pounded these on many off-road adventures and are very pleased with the strength and durability. The long sides of the plate are formed at a 90° angle for added rigidity, and are drilled for bungee cords or ratchet strap hooks to tie down gear you might wish to store in this location.
Installation takes less than thirty minutes and utilizes existing threaded provisions for mounting. Basic hand tools are all you need, with the exception of some minor drilling that is required on 2WD vehicles. Syncros are a direct bolt on!
What’s included:
- 2D fabrication drawings (DXF/PDF)
- Installation guide
- Hardware specs
Installation Notes:
This design requires drilling through the front subframe to mount the skid plate. With basic hand tools and a power drill, you’ll have everything you need to install your own plate.
NOTE: Installation of this product requires moving the spare tire to another location. There is not enough room above the skid plate for the spare tire.
As part of our new line of digital download resources, your purchase includes everything you need to build the product yourself—complete with technical drawings and a full bill of materials, including hardware. Whether you're a professional fabricator or a hands-on hobbyist, these files are designed to help you confidently source materials and execute your build with accuracy and efficiency.
Inside the downloadable folder, you may find that some parts come with a DXF file. DXF stands for “Drawing Exchange Format,” and it’s a type of vector file used to describe parts in two dimensions. DXF files are commonly used in design and manufacturing processes, particularly when laser cutting or bending sheet metal is involved.
While we understand that not everyone has access to a laser cutter or press brake, DXF files are still incredibly useful. They provide highly accurate measurements, perfect for anyone building with just a hacksaw and a dream.
To open or modify a DXF file, you’ll need CAD software. Fusion 360 offers a free personal-use version on their website that lets you inspect and customize DXF files. Alternatively, custom sheet metal fabrication services like SendCutSend accept DXF files and can cut and form parts for you.
Have fun fabbing!
