Will this Bosch temperature sensor fit my Vanagon, and what model years is it compatible with?

Yes! This Bosch fuel injection temperature sensor (part number 0-280-130-026) is a direct replacement for any 1983-1991 Vanagon with a metal thermostat housing—including all 2WD, all 4WD Syncro models, and all trim levels. It also works perfectly with GoWesty’s aluminum thermostat housing. Just double-check your housing material for compatibility before ordering.

Is this the original equipment temperature sensor for the Vanagon, or is it an aftermarket part?

This is a genuine Bosch temperature sensor, just like the original equipment (OE) part that came in your Vanagon from the factory. Bosch is known for quality and reliability, so you can buy with confidence that this sensor meets or exceeds OEM standards.

How easy is it to install this temperature sensor? Can I do it myself or will I need extra tools or parts?

Installation is straightforward for most DIYers with basic tools. The only extra part you need is the sealing washer, which is sold separately. If you're comfortable working under the hood, swapping the sensor is a simple unplug-and-replace job—just remember to do it when the engine is cool and to tighten everything securely to prevent leaks.

Do I need to buy any additional parts with this Vanagon temperature sensor?

The only additional part you may need is the sealing washer, which is not included and must be purchased separately. Make sure to add a new washer to your order for a proper seal and leak-free installation.

What kinds of problems can this fuel injection temperature sensor help fix on my Vanagon?

A faulty temperature sensor can cause starting issues, rough idling, poor fuel economy, and incorrect temperature readings. Replacing it with this Bosch unit often resolves hard starts and temp gauge problems—our customers report perfect fit and immediate improvements in performance.
