Will this Charcoal Emissions Canister fit my vintage VW Bus or Vanagon?

Yes! This replacement activated charcoal canister (part number 1H0-201-801C) is specifically designed for VW Type II Bus and Vanagon models from 1968 to 1991. It works as a direct replacement for your evaporative emissions canister, helping capture fuel vapors and keep your classic VW running clean. Please check your vehicle’s year and model for a perfect fit.

How easy is it to install this charcoal canister? Do I need any modifications?

Installation is designed to be straightforward. Most customers find it is a direct fit, though you may need to adjust the routing or length of your original vapor and vent lines to line up with the inlet and outlet connections. No special tools are usually required. Many VW enthusiasts have installed this at home using simple hand tools and basic automotive knowledge.

Will this canister work just like the original part? How is the quality?

Absolutely! This charcoal emissions canister is built to meet or exceed OEM specifications for your VW’s evaporative emissions system, helping curb vapor leaks and fuel smell. Customers consistently rate it 5-stars for fit, performance, and reliability, reporting no issues with functionality even after extended use. GoWesty offers support if you run into any trouble after installation.

Are there any known fitment challenges with this replacement canister?

Fitment is generally excellent for 1968–91 VW Bus and Vanagon models. The main thing to note is that inlet and outlet positions may not be identical to the original, so you may need to make slight adjustments to your hoses. Most users find these minor tweaks easy to manage and appreciate the solid, leak-free result after installation.

What’s included with the canister, and do I need anything else to complete the install?

This listing is for the replacement charcoal emissions canister itself. You should reuse your existing hose clamps and vapor hoses. Check your old hoses for cracks or dryness—replacing them during the install can help ensure a trouble-free evaporative emissions system in your VW Bus or Vanagon.
